Did you know that people who collect government disability income payments are not counted among the unemployed in the US? The US labor market speaks of unemployment rates going down and the economy improving. So of this group, those that would have trouble finding jobs aren't even counted. There is a direct correlation with the influx of those on disability and unemployment. Part of this is due to an aging workforce with older people tending to have more health problems. It is alarming to see how this program is being abused as a type of welfare program for those without a lot of education or job skills. Once people get on the government free ride, they almost never go back to work (2011 statistics show that less than 1% return). It creates an atmosphere of laziness and entitlement that is killing our country and taking away benefits for those that are truly disabled and deserving.
