It is very important to take care of a live Christmas tree.
1.) When you bring it home saw a couple of inches off the bottom. When the tree is first cut pitch oozes out of the tree and seals the pores. Sawing off a couple of inches opens up the pores and allows the tree to absorb water.
2) Keep plenty of water under the tree. Trees can absorb a gallon of water in 24 hours.
3) Don't put the tree close to heating ducts.
