A very common practice with companies that write home insurance is a
split deductible. You might see the letters AOP on your declarations
page and not know what that means. The letters stand for All other
perils. Examples of the types of perils covered here are lightning,
water, fire, explosion and theft basically all perils that would be
covered other than Wind/Hail. Due to so many wind and hail claims
in our state it has become necessary to have a separate deductible.
You also may see on the Wind/Hail deductible a percent figure. This
deductible is calculated by taking your coverage A- Dwelling number
and applying whatever percent to that amount. This is how you figure
your out of pocket amount. EX: You have a policy covering 150,000
for your dwelling. A 2% deductible for Wind/Hail would be $ 3,000.
