There have been a lot more drowning cases in our area this year, in fact over twice the normal amount. There are many questions surrounding these because many of the victims were excellent swimmers. This week on WSOC News there was a possible answer to some of these: ESD Electrical Shock Drowning. This is caused when an electrical current is in the lake or pool which can even be caused by a boat. The electrical current paralyzes the victim enough that they cannot swim and so they drown.
